The Planets - Les Planètes.

In the last couple of weeks or so I have been getting
up early in the morning, before sunrise, to see the planets, Jupiter, Saturn
and Mars all up above the horizon together. On one of those occasions I saw all
three planets together with the Moon. I managed to photograph them from my
front garden not far from Darrick Wood. No one was around at that time of the
morning and it was exceptionally quiet because of the social confinement.
The lockdown greatly reduces the sound pollution, so
it is of benefit for a good night’s sleep. It does nothing, however, for the
light pollution which is about as bad as it can get in our area. The air is
cleaner and clearer now that there is much less traffic. Perhaps there will be
greater public demand for less pollution all around when we return to some sort
of normality.
For anyone living in a rural area with dark skies the
three planets and the moon together, just before sunrise, would have been a
spectacular sight. It is a shame that I could not have gone out to join them.
Recently, the planet Venus and the Moon have been rising
together after sunset and this too would have been a spectacular sight from a
dark sky location. This would have been a celestial treat too. I have had to
content myself with something a little bit less alluring
.
I was happy, however, to photograph these celestial
joys and count my lucky planets if not my stars.

Au cours des deux dernières semaines environ, je me
suis levé tôt le matin, avant le lever du soleil, pour voir les planètes,
Jupiter, Saturne et Mars ensemble au-dessus de l’horizon. À l’une de ces occasions, j’ai vu les trois
planètes ensemble avec la Lune. J’ai réussi à les photographier de mon jardin avant
non loin de Darrick Wood. Il n’y avait personne à ce moment-là, et la
situation était exceptionnellement calme en raison de l’isolement social.
Le confinement réduit considérablement la pollution sonore,
ce qui est avantageux pour une bonne nuit de sommeil. Il ne fait rien, cependant, pour la pollution
lumineuse qui est à peu près aussi mauvais qu’il peut obtenir dans notre région. L’air est plus propre et plus clair maintenant
qu’il y a beaucoup moins de circulation. Peut-être y aura-t-il une plus grande demande de la
part du public pour réduire la pollution quand nous reviendrons à une certaine
normalité.
Pour quiconque vit dans une région rurale avec un ciel
sombre, les trois planètes et la lune ensemble, juste avant le lever du soleil,
aurait été une vue spectaculaire. C’est dommage que je n’aie pas pu aller les
rejoindre.Récemment, la planète Vénus et la Lune se sont
levées ensemble après le coucher du soleil et cela aussi aurait été une vue spectaculaire depuis un emplacement de ciel sombre. Cela aurait été un régal céleste aussi. J’ai dû me contenter de quelque chose d’un peu
moins séduisant.
J’étais heureux, cependant, de photographier ces joies
célestes et de compter mes planètes chanceuses sinon mes étoiles.
