The Peace - La Paix

Even though Darrick Wood is now noticeably quiet, you can still hear the occasional car driving past on the A21.

One place where there is absolute calm is Caldy island. This small island is just off the coast of South Pembrokeshire, and visitors can get there by a small boat from Tenby in the summer season.
There is a monastery on the island which is home to a dwindling number of Cistercian monks. Women are not allowed in the monastery which also serves as a retreat, but for men only.

It really feels like a special and tranquil place and I can understand why going there would reinforce the faith of a believer.

On this day, perhaps it is better to celebrate and contemplate peace rather than wave flags.

Même si Darrick Wood est maintenant remarquablement calme, vous pouvez toujours entendre la voiture occasionnelle qui passe sur l’A21.

Un endroit où il y a le calme absolu est l’île de Caldy. Cette petite île est juste au large de la côte du Sud Pembrokeshire, et les visiteurs peuvent y arriver par un petit bateau de Tenby dans la saison estivale.

Il y a un monastère sur l’île qui abrite un nombre décroissant de moines cisterciens. Les femmes ne sont pas autorisées dans le monastère qui sert aussi de retraite, mais seulement pour les hommes.

 Il se sent vraiment comme un endroit spécial et tranquille et je peux comprendre pourquoi aller là-bas renforcerait la foi d’un croyant.

En ce jour, il vaut peut-être mieux célébrer et contempler la paix plutôt que de brandir des drapeaux.

Spontaneity

Thoughts in Darrick Wood by Trevor Morgan 23 June 2020 (traduction française ci-dessous) For me, a social life needs some spontaneity. I like to walk in Darrick Wood whenever I feel like it. Sometimes, my wife and I decide to walk through the woods but then continue to the village of Downe. In Downe, we often used to stop in the “Queen’s Head” pub and drink a pint of the best kept beer in London and have lunch. This was great, but these days it seems so far away. On 4th of July the government is proposing that pubs should be allowed to re-open under social distancing rules. It looks like we will be asked to book our slot in the pub in advance. This means strolling to a timetable; none of the spontaneity, of going for a long walk in the country and stopping off for a drink, will remain. I am in two minds about this. Yes, the economy needs to be protected as should pub life, but does this mean that I must book in for a pint? Booking in is ok to go to a restaurant for a formal meal b...
