I often ponder the intelligence of other animals while I wander through the woods.
Dolphins have been observed to give instructions to each other and they do this by some form of verbal language. Primates do the same. Monkeys and Chimpanzees show that they can pre-plan activities by carrying tools with them.

I was in the woods the other day and stopped to talk to a friend, her dog was chasing squirrels and I could swear that the dog was indicating to me that I should join in. Wolves signal to each other to share tactics on a hunt. The domesticated dog is a brother of the wolf, so it has probably inherited the instinct to act co-operatively. This was, perhaps, one of the key reasons that wolves were domesticated to become dogs.

Foxes and badgers have been observed co-operating with one another to catch rabbits and then share the prey. Dolphins have shown similar co-operative behaviour towards fishermen.
I wonder how animals think; probably most of them think in pictures. Dolphins and some primates such as Chimpanzees probably think both verbally and visually.

Animals are probably not as dim witted as we think they are.

Je réfléchis souvent à l'intelligence des autres animaux pendant que je me promène dans les bois.
Les dauphins ont été observés pour se donner des instructions les uns aux autres et ils le font par une certaine forme de langage verbal. Les primates font de même. Les singes et les chimpanzés montrent qu'ils peuvent planifier des activités en emportant des outils avec eux.

J'étais dans les bois l'autre jour et je me suis arrêté pour parler à un ami, son chien chassait les écureuils et je pouvais jurer que le chien m'indiquait que je devais le rejoindre. Les loups se font signe de partager des tactiques lors d'une chasse. Le chien domestique est un frère du loup, il a donc probablement hérité de l'instinct d'agir en coopération.C'était peut-être l'une des principales raisons pour lesquelles les loups étaient domestiqués pour devenir des chiens.

Des renards et des blaireaux ont été observés coopérant entre eux pour attraper des lapins puis partager les proies. Les dauphins ont montré un comportement coopératif similaire envers les pêcheurs. Je me demande comment les animaux pensent; la plupart pensent probablement en images. Les dauphins et certains primates tels que les chimpanzés pensent probablement à la fois verbalement et visuellement.

Les animaux ne sont probablement pas aussi stupides que nous le pensons.

Spontaneity

Thoughts in Darrick Wood by Trevor Morgan 23 June 2020 (traduction française ci-dessous) For me, a social life needs some spontaneity. I like to walk in Darrick Wood whenever I feel like it. Sometimes, my wife and I decide to walk through the woods but then continue to the village of Downe. In Downe, we often used to stop in the “Queen’s Head” pub and drink a pint of the best kept beer in London and have lunch. This was great, but these days it seems so far away. On 4th of July the government is proposing that pubs should be allowed to re-open under social distancing rules. It looks like we will be asked to book our slot in the pub in advance. This means strolling to a timetable; none of the spontaneity, of going for a long walk in the country and stopping off for a drink, will remain. I am in two minds about this. Yes, the economy needs to be protected as should pub life, but does this mean that I must book in for a pint? Booking in is ok to go to a restaurant for a formal meal b...
