Darrick wood is not just a nature reserve managed by mankind, it is a place of peace, rest and recreation, and now recuperation. There are many people living in the surrounding area who do not have gardens even though they are in a suburban location. Darrick wood is there to provide everyone with the opportunity to maintain their fitness despite recently imposed restrictions and confinement. Dog walkers love it and it is just as important for a dog to keep fit as its owner.

Darrick wood has survived since before the Roman times and it is essential that it is preserved as a green space for all our residents. It is an inspiration maintained by a community of dedicated volunteers. All urban dwellers need a “Darrick wood” to maintain a vital connexion between humans and the rest of the living world. This connexion if lost could lead to serious problems for humanity.

Le bois de Darrick n’est pas seulement une réserve naturelle gérée par l’humanité, c’est un lieu de paix, de repos et de récréation, et maintenant de récupération. Il y a beaucoup de gens qui vivent dans les environs et qui n’ont pas de jardin même s’ils sont en banlieue. Darrick Wood est là pour donner à chacun la possibilité de maintenir sa condition physique malgré les restrictions et l’isolement récemment imposés. Les promeneurs de chien l’aiment et il est tout aussi important pour un chien de garder la forme que son propriétaire.

Darrick bois a survécu depuis avant l’époque romaine et il est essentiel qu’il est conservé comme un espace vert pour tous nos résidents. C’est une source d’inspiration entretenue par une communauté de bénévoles dévoués. Tous les citadins ont besoin d’un « bois Darrick » pour maintenir un lien vital entre les humains et le reste du monde vivant. Cette connexion, si elle est perdue, pourrait entraîner de graves problèmes pour l’humanité.

Spontaneity

Thoughts in Darrick Wood by Trevor Morgan 23 June 2020 (traduction française ci-dessous) For me, a social life needs some spontaneity. I like to walk in Darrick Wood whenever I feel like it. Sometimes, my wife and I decide to walk through the woods but then continue to the village of Downe. In Downe, we often used to stop in the “Queen’s Head” pub and drink a pint of the best kept beer in London and have lunch. This was great, but these days it seems so far away. On 4th of July the government is proposing that pubs should be allowed to re-open under social distancing rules. It looks like we will be asked to book our slot in the pub in advance. This means strolling to a timetable; none of the spontaneity, of going for a long walk in the country and stopping off for a drink, will remain. I am in two minds about this. Yes, the economy needs to be protected as should pub life, but does this mean that I must book in for a pint? Booking in is ok to go to a restaurant for a formal meal b...
