The Seven Sisters cliffs - Les falaises de Seven Sisters

Darrick wood is very attractive, but the views are rather restrictive, after all the reserve only has 25 hectares and it is surrounded by developments and the A21 road. My wife and I love to see the sea and we used to make frequent trips south to the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs, in Sussex. The views are fantastic over the English Channel and to walk across the cliffs is such good exercise to fill your lungs with refreshing sea air. If you venture into the interior countryside north of the cliffs, you will experience an air of calm and feel that you are going back into the past when you wander through the small villages.

For me the views over the cliffs here are spectacular and rival some of the best scenes in Europe if not the world. It has the added attraction of being able to see rare hares and peregrine falcons. As an added bonus magnificent ravens can be seen soaring above the flocks of jackdaws performing acrobatics. Unfortunately, Darrick wood can’t match this, but I can still dream.

Le bois de Darrick est très attrayant, mais les vues sont plutôt restrictives, après tout, la réserve ne compte que 25 hectares et elle est entourée de développements et de la route A21. Ma femme et moi aimons voir la mer et nous allions souvent au sud vers les falaises de craie "Seven Sisters", dans le Sussex. Les vues sont fantastiques sur la Manche et marcher à travers les falaises est un si bon exercice pour remplir vos poumons d'air marin rafraîchissant. Si vous vous aventurez dans la campagne intérieure au nord des falaises, vous ressentirez un air de calme et aurez l'impression de retourner dans le passé en vous promenant dans les petits villages.

Pour moi, les vues sur les falaises sont spectaculaires et rivalisent avec certaines des meilleures scènes d’Europe, sinon du monde. Il a l’attrait supplémentaire de pouvoir voir des lièvres rares et des faucons pèlerins. Comme un bonus supplémentaire magnifiques grands corbeaux peuvent être vus planant au-dessus des troupeaux de choucas effectuer des acrobaties. Malheureusement, Darrick Wood ne peut pas égaler ça, mais je peux toujours rêver.

Spontaneity

Thoughts in Darrick Wood by Trevor Morgan 23 June 2020 (traduction française ci-dessous) For me, a social life needs some spontaneity. I like to walk in Darrick Wood whenever I feel like it. Sometimes, my wife and I decide to walk through the woods but then continue to the village of Downe. In Downe, we often used to stop in the “Queen’s Head” pub and drink a pint of the best kept beer in London and have lunch. This was great, but these days it seems so far away. On 4th of July the government is proposing that pubs should be allowed to re-open under social distancing rules. It looks like we will be asked to book our slot in the pub in advance. This means strolling to a timetable; none of the spontaneity, of going for a long walk in the country and stopping off for a drink, will remain. I am in two minds about this. Yes, the economy needs to be protected as should pub life, but does this mean that I must book in for a pint? Booking in is ok to go to a restaurant for a formal meal b...
